Disabilities The Fairfield is equipped to accommodate guests with various disabilities. We can offer a room on the ground floor, specifically allocated and equipped with disabled access in mind. Please mention when booking if you feel you may require this room in particular.
If you are driving to us then please first come to the reception at the front when you arrive and we will guide you as regards parking and access to the building for a wheelchair. Access to the room is easiest to access from the garden at the rear of the house through the bar/lounge area, and involves one step down and a tight corner. We have already had wheel-chair users try it, so we know it is passable for a standard wheelchair (probably a good idea if you check the size of yours and let us know just to be sure). We have a ramp for the step, which can be ready by the time you arrive.
Inside of the room there is ample room for a wheel chair to turn and manoeuvre. The bathroom has a grab handle for the WC and a shower seat, though the room where the WC, washbasin and shower are located is itself too small for a wheelchair. The tea and coffee facilities are all at a low level and the TV has a remote control. We are resident in the house and we can be contacted at any time in our apartment. We can also provide a call button in the room so that you can raise help at any time should it be needed. The staff will know of the presence of a handicapped person and will be briefed on what to do in the event of an emergency. Our dining room is reasonably spacious and will accommodate a wheelchair.
The Lakes generally being mountainous, are quite challenging for a wheelchair or disabled person and that includes the towns, Bowness village and its shops, and access to restaurants. We can supply a restaurant guide for Bowness village if required, and you can contact them individually to discuss your needs. A car or taxi would be necessary to reach any of them. There are a number of small tour companies who can take you around the Lakes, which is not expensive and is an ideal way to see the best of the sights. We have spoken to some of them and established that one company - Park Tours - have facilities for disabled and can even take a wheelchair. Their website is www.parktours.co.uk and you can see the range of tours they offer. We will be happy to make the booking for you and make sure you get buses suitably equipped.
We will do whatever we can to make it all possible and we hope you will enjoy your stay.
